Rev. Ken Rawson, Minister to Students

316-267-6244 ext. 318

Brief Bio: I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and crushing ice. I have been known to remodel train stations on my lunch breaks, making them more efficient in the area of heat retention. I write award-winning operas, I manage time efficiently. Occasionally, I tread water for three days in a row. I can pilot bicycles up severe inclines with unflagging speed, and I cook Thirty-Minute Brownies in twenty minutes. I am an expert in stucco and an outlaw in Peru.

Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. I was scouted by the San Francisco Giants, I am the subject of numerous documentaries. When I'm bored, I build large suspension bridges in my yard. I enjoy urban hang gliding. On Wednesdays, I repair electrical appliances free of charge.

I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless bookie. I don't perspire. I am a private citizen, yet I receive fan mail. I have been caller number nine and have won the weekend passes.
I can hurl tennis rackets at small moving objects with deadly accuracy. I have performed several covert operations for the CIA. I sleep once a week; when I do sleep, I sleep in a chair. While on vacation in Canada, I successfully negotiated with a group of terrorists who had seized a small bakery. The laws of physics do not apply to me.

I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all paid. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full-contact origami. I breed prizewinning clams. I have won bullfights in San Juan, cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at the Kremlin. I have played Hamlet, I have performed open-heart surgery, and I have spoken with Elvis.* (See note below)

Ministry Area: I serve as the Minister to Students in grades 6th-12th. Our amazing team of volunteer youth workers and I are here to come alongside parents and help their kids develop a lifelong relationship with Jesus.

Family: My sweet wife’s name is Jen and we have three amazing kids, a great dog, and a cat (who hates the dog).

Interests: The San Francisco Giants, the San Francisco 49ers, going to the Warren Movie Theater, playing with my kids, and hanging out with friends.

Favorite Media: I watch the Biggest Loser TV show. One of my favorite movies is Napoleon Dynamite. And while I like all kinds of music (James Taylor to the B-52’s, Elvis to The David Crowder Band), I am usually listening to sports talk radio or NPR.

A book that has shaped my faith: “The Ragamuffin Gospel” by Brennan Manning.

Favorite Bible Verses: Acts 20:24, “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace.” and John 3:30, “He must become greater; I must become less.”

* (No, I am not an outlaw in Peru...and my sweet wife makes all the brownies. The section under “Brief Bio” is made up of excerpts from an amazing essay written by Hugh Gallagher who wrote it when he was 17 years old! You can listen to the full essay here: www.hughgallagher.net/hg/audio/essay.mp3)
