Ministry Area: As Senior Pastor, I serve the spiritual needs of the church by leading our staff team, preaching God’s Word, leading in worship, and helping shape the vision for the ministries and mission of the church.

Brief Bio: I was born in California, but grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. My degrees are from Baker University, and Saint Paul School of Theology. My doctorate is from Drew University School of Theology. I have been a United Methodist Pastor since 1978, serving Churches in Kansas City, Coffeyville, and Dodge City before coming to Wichita First in 2004.

Family: I have been married to Ann for 31 years. We have four grown children: Marie, Michael, Bryan and John. Between us we have eight grandchildren, scattered all over. We are trying to be the world’s best grandma and grandpa. Ann’s 93 year old mother also lives with us.

Interests: I love old cars, guitars, motorcycles, movies, music, books, fly-fishing, international travel, the K-State Wildcats and Alaska.

Favorite Movies and Music: Of the many movies I love, some of my favorites are "The Quiet Man", "The Matrix", any Star Trek and "Grand Torino". As for music, I have always loved classic rock and also classical music, and I listen to jazz and contemporary Christian stuff. Dire Straits and The Eagles are my all time favorites, but I also love Queen and the amazing guitar work of Brian May.

A book that has shaped my faith: "Blue Like Jazz" by Donald Miller

Favorite Beatle: John Lennon (but George Harrison when I’m feeling particularly spiritual)

A Favorite Bible Verse: “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)

My Life Verse for more than forty years: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven,” (Matthew 5:16)
