Meet Kent Rogers First Church's New Senior Pastor
beginning July 1
Kent is a Kansas native. He was born in Wichita on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 1961. He is married to Dedra Rogers. Kent and Dedra are a blended family with five children (Heidi, Brendan, Dylan, Lindy and Justin), three adorable grandchildren (Elijah, Maddie and Trey) and two dogs (Princess Isabella and King Caesar).
Kent began his pastoral ministry in The United Methodist Church in 1982. He has almost 30 years of ministry experience in the Kansas area. Kent has served at Evangel United Methodist Church (www.evangelumc.org) in Holton, Kansas since July of 2007. In October of 2009, Evangel United Methodist Church received the Church of the Resurrection Leadership Institute “Award for Excellence” for exceptional ministry in reaching people for Christ and helping them grow through Christian Discipleship.
Kent completed his Masters of Divinity at Saint Paul School of Theology in 1992. Prior to attending Saint Paul, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Emporia State University in 1989. Kent completed his Clinical Pastoral Education at Osawatomie State Hospital. In 2010, the Foundation for Evangelism and the Kansas East Conference presented Kent the “Harry Denman Evangelism Award” in recognition and appreciation of exemplary leadership in The United Methodist Church and commitment to the Great Commission by helping persons experience God’s transforming love through Jesus Christ.
Kent is physically active and enjoys exercise and running. Kent is a “sports fanatic.” He loves to play golf, basketball, slow-pitch softball, tennis and almost any kind of “sports spectation.”
Kent is driven by a passion to do “Whatever It Takes” to see lives changed as people come to know and understand his best friend, Jesus Christ.
